Shir Hadash to Celebrate Installation of Cantor Joshua Finkel

The community is invited to celebrate the installation of Cantor Joshua Finkel as the spiritual leader of Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Community on Saturday evening, Jan. 20, at the J, Staenberg Family Complex, Arts and Education Building, 2 Millstone Campus Dr. Finkel assumed the pulpit of Shir Hadash in July 2017, succeeding Rabbi Lane Steinger, who though now officially retired, continues to participate in the congregation as Rabbi Emeritus.

The installation service will take place from 5-6 p.m. Rabbi Daniel Bogard, a longtime friend and colleague of Finkel, will speak and participate in the service. Bogard is currently the Rabbi in Residence of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio and an adjunct lecturer at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, OH. This July, he and his co-rabbi partner, Rabbi Karen Bogard, will join the rabbinic team at Central Reform Congregation.

The community celebration will begin at 6 p.m. with Havdalah and a complimentary buffet dinner featuring fish, vegetarian and vegan dishes. After dinner, the festivities will kick into high gear with music and circle dancing led by Finkel and fellow musicians from Shir Hadash and the community. A highlight will be the debut of some new music by Shir Hadash resident pianist and composer Dr. Richard Katz.
