New Initiative from Federation Builds Community While Breaking Bread

Challah in the Home, a new program from Federation’s Community Development department, pairs young adults with a host family in St. Louis to share home-cooked meals while celebrating Jewish experiences. The initiative helps young adults develop a sense of community with a local family by allowing for engagement in shared Jewish rituals. Alternatively, host families assist Jewish young adults in connecting with the St. Louis region and establishing a sense of community and family that might not otherwise be present.

The program launches under the direction of Nate Rosenblum, Senior Associate of Community Development at Jewish Federation of St Louis. “St. Louis is home to many transplants who are involved in their professional and educational communities, but often lack a local sense of family that is so important to our Jewish people and culture” said Rosenblum. “Our goal with Challah in the Home is to create an inviting entry point for these individuals to engage with members of the Jewish community and learn how much St. Louis has to offer.”

To participate in Challah in the Home as either a young adult or host family, visit JewishinSTLouis.org/challah-home and fill out a form that will ask questions such as denomination of Judaism, dietary restrictions, and other qualifiers to ensure a good match.
