United Hebrew Congregation of St. Louis, MO seeks a full-time director, for a year round position, beginning July 2018, to oversee all aspects of elementary youth education and family engagement. This position includes directing grades K-5 of our Millstone Religious School and Grollman Hebrew School; and oversees youth groups and family programming.  Religious and Hebrew schools are in session on Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons during the school year. Director reports to the Senior Rabbi.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • School and Program Administration – ensuring the successful enrollment and retention, marketing and advertising of the elementary youth education and engagement programs.  Director must have experience preparing and managing budgets.
  • Personnel Management – hiring and supervising of staff including teachers, specialists, and the school administrative assistant. Will provide opportunities for professional growth and development of teaching staff within the context of educating and engaging youth and families in grades K-5.
  • Work with clergy and other engagement directors on curriculum development and implementation for the Millstone Religious School and Grollman Hebrew School.
  • Communication – communication with families, staff, Parent Board, United Hebrew staff and professionals, congregants, prospective members and other stakeholders in the congregation in the elementary youth education and engagement areas.
  • Engagement and Outreach – work with engagement team and UH staff to enhance current experiences and create additional opportunities for engagement of families, both adults and children, in the congregation. Work with the early childhood and teen education and engagement directors to ensure smooth transitions and improved retention during transitional stages.
  • Community Relations – develop and maintain relationships with other religious school directors to maintain and strengthen our presence in the broader St. Louis Jewish community.

This is a new and evolving position.  Additional responsibilities may be added as the individual and team work through the dynamic of enhancing engagement and education programs for the youth of the congregation.


  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or similar area with Education focus is desired - will consider individuals with college degrees in other areas; management experience in an educational or similar environment, including supervision of teaching staff.
  • Must enjoy working with children and their families and have some experience in a school or camp setting.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Reform Judaism and its traditions and values.
  • Availability to work Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons throughout the school year; and to lead and participate in occasional evening and other weekend activities.
  • Ability to be inclusive, to work with students (and their families) of differing abilities and learning styles, as well as differing social and emotional needs.

Salary:  $45-$50K starting; plus benefits package (paid time off, medical insurance, etc.)
