Congregation Shaare Emeth seeks a Communications Director to oversee and manage all congregational communications and further the successful fulfillment of the mission.

Position Summary

The Communications Director will oversee and manage all internal and external communications, including print materials, email communications, web management, social media, digital signage, public relations, branding, and marketing for Congregation Shaare Emeth. This person will, in partnership with the Executive Director, develop and execute the creation of various marketing campaigns and projects to publicize and highlight Congregation Shaare Emeth events, programs, initiatives, and individuals. The Director will work with the rest of the Shaare Emeth staff to ensure content and publicity are promoted through the correct channels and in front of the target audience(s). The Director will also work with lay leaders to accomplish different tasks, such as event publicity and communications analysis. Lastly, this person will define communication goals, analyze progress, and adapt as necessary.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in English, journalism, marketing, communications, public relations or other relevant field is required

Experience in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Social Media and/or Informatics is required
Strong written and oral communication skills; strong presentation skills
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to give detailed attention to several concurrent projects
Self-motivated, diligent work ethic with high productivity level
Strong social media experience

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) required
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva is preferred
Graphic Design and Video Production experience is a plus
Experience with WordPress and Constant Contact (or other similar email builder) is a plus
Ability to work as part of a team and to develop consensus

Essential Functions

Knowledge of and promotion of Congregational Programming and Mission

Maintain familiarity with and monitor all congregational programming, worship, education, social justice and other congregational activities

Manage the communications schedule so that content is promoted in a timely and effective manner
Monitor department communications in order to ensure brand consistency in all outlets (Religious School, Preschool, Auxiliary Groups, etc.)
Actively seek and identify interesting Shaare Emeth stories to showcase in various Shaare Emeth media

Print Media

Edit written material submitted by staff and clergy and maintain an effective proofreading process
Work with graphic artists, printers, and other vendors to produce high quality print materials

Media Relations

Serve as liaison between Congregation Shaare Emeth and the news media

Oversee the creation of Temple advertisements for various news outlets
Produce and distribute press releases regarding congregational events and member achievements for Jewish and secular publications and media outlets
Alert the media to possible stories about Congregation Shaare Emeth events and individuals
Obtain media coverage for identified events

Social Media

Build and execute social media strategy through platform determination, messaging and audience identification
Responsible for regular online posts using such resources as Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Coordinate staff social media submissions
Generate, edit, publish and share content (text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and strengthens the congregation’s reputation

Moderate all user-generated content

Website Management

Responsible for all updates to temple website in coordination with clergy, staff, and lay leadership

Email News and Marketing

Promote the congregation through email using such media as Constant Contact or ShulCloud Email Builder
Responsible for creating and sending weekly congregation email
Edit staff/congregant submissions for congregational eblasts and suggest best placement and run-time
Manage e-blasts schedule

Designs and sends emails as necessary

Digital Signage

Updates temple display boards on a weekly basis
Manages creative presentations for interactive signage

General

Manage congregational photo files and press archives
Ensure that photo documentation takes place for all events
Serve as a member of the Directors team at Shaare Emeth and participate in staff meetings, events, and programs as deemed appropriate

Manage and work within communications budget of the congregation

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties described above, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for long periods of time
Communications Director may be required to use a computer for extended periods of time, resulting in frequent and repetitive hand/arm movement

Hours may include some evenings and weekends per the Director’s instructions
