JOB TITLE: Communications Coordinator, Part Time, 20 hours/week

REPORTS TO: Communications Director

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Congregation Temple Israel, #1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141

SUMMARY:

The Communications Coordinator will assist in internal and external public relations, branding, marketing, social media, and communications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing

  • Assist in creative brainstorming process, creation and implementation of comprehensive marketing, branding, and communications plans
  • Assist in creation and execution of strategic social media campaigns and digital initiatives
  • Help to procure video projects for campaign, recruitment, and fundraising uses
  • Assist in layout and editing of our monthly DATELINE bulletin publication
  • Acquiring print material quotes and managing printer lists
  • Other tasks and special projects as needed

Communications

  • Assist in writing and copy editing for collateral materials both in digital and print and ensuring the Temple’s brand and tone are consistent
  • Assists in creation of external communications and public relations in both the Jewish and secular media
  • Managing/updating press contact lists

Creative

  • Assists in managing photo archives
  • Takes photos or arranges for photography at Temple events and programs as needed
  • Serves as a content administrator for Temple website and Facebook pages
  • Assist in graphic design projects as assigned

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College level degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required
  • Knowledge and experience in public relations and communications
  • Knowledge of PC computers
  • Knowledge of advertising
  • Design eye and knowledge of graphic design fundamentals
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop preferred
  • Expertise and comfort with social media
  • Capable of promoting and managing communications efforts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic photography skills
  • Capable of relating to and working with people in a pleasant, professional and enthusiastic manner
  • Some knowledge of Jewish practices, holidays, and laws preferred

EXAMPLES OF TASKS PERFORMED:

  • Provides input to Communications Director and MAR/COM ‘clients’ and volunteers
  • Preparing and disseminating press releases, advertisements, and media alerts
  • Assist in obtaining media coverage for Temple programs and events
  • Writes and/or edits content for website, Facebook, monthly DATELINE newsletter, and weekly eNewsletter

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work is typically performed at Temple facility in an office setting and event locations
  • Requires minimal amount of physical effort
  • Attendance at some evening and weekend meetings may by required
