Job Summary

Prepares member communications including newsletters, e-mails, programs, prayer books, maintains web site, and assists the Executive Director, Rabbis, and Director of Advocacy as necessary.

Job Scope

The position has limited supervisory and budgetary authority.


  • Responsible for managing and directing an integrated communications strategy that drives the shared vision of Central Reform Congregation.
  • Understands all audiences and stakeholders of CRC, builds and directs appropriate messaging to support all.
  • Translates overall organizational strategy into a comprehensive communication plan for the communications team highlighting the priorities of organization. Tracks and communicates progress in a timely manner.
  • Contributes to a staff team that works collaboratively to build messages that engage more members, create clarity and organizational alignment.
  • Produces and delivers communication campaigns and materials to engage membership and volunteer leaders.
  • Anticipates and creates communication strategy for any crisis communication for the organization, including public relations as needed including developing program flyers and preparing press releases.
  • Responsible for communications efforts for CRC events.
  • Prepares a variety of members communications including the monthly newsletter.
  • Develops and maintains CRC web-site utilizing WordPress.
  • Works with members to create personalized prayer books for b’nai mitzvahs.
  • Oversees CRC Brand.
  • Assists in planning and executing special event.
  • Provides other duties as assigned by Senior Staff.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required

Requires a pleasant demeanor in person and over the phone. Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.  Strong computer skills a must including Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, and WordPress.  Aptitude to learn and fully utilize other software programs including calendar programs and databases.  Ability to proofread work.  Ability to operate standard office equipment.  Knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and commercial arithmetic.  Ability to maintain complex files, generate reports and answer questions utilizing file data.  Ability to work under pressure yet maintain composure when dealing with the public.


Education, Certification and Experience Required

Requires graduation from a general or technical high school or equivalent with three to five years of previous experience, or a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or a related field.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
