Assistant to the Rabbinic Team – Full Time

JOB DESCRIPTION: Central Reform Congregation is a warm, welcoming, and progressive Reform synagogue located in the City of St. Louis. We are celebrating our 36th anniversary with a wonderful legacy and commitment to creating meaningful Jewish connections for our members and throughout the community.

We are recruiting an Assistant to the Rabbinic Team, who will serve as the first point of contact for our members and visitors both on the phone and in person when seeking Rabbinic support. This person is responsible for: administrative support to the Rabbis, special projects, some office operations and more. It is a multi-faceted position—part-Administrative Support, part-Rabbinic Scheduler and Travel Agent, part-Data Specialist, and Part-General Trouble Shooter, as needed.

This position requires the applicant to be service oriented, work independently and also be an integral member of the Rabbinic and staff team. The applicant must have strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and willingness to be collaborative and proactively assist others. At times we are fast-paced, so you must be flexible and able to adapt to the needs of the moment. In slower times, it is important that you take on special projects.  This is a position that interacts with people that reach far beyond the 4 walls of the synagogue. It is immensely important for the right candidate to address every human with dignity and respect, reflective of the core value of being an open, accepting, and safe environment for all who wish to enter.

Qualified applicants must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and have outstanding written, verbal and now virtual communication skills in person and on the phone. Excellent computer skills (using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher) as well as some experience using database software are required.


Screen and direct phone calls and pro-actively offer assistance to those who need it
Manage the very busy schedules of the Rabbis
Provide administrative assistance to multiple team members
Exceptional relationship building and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with the public, community leaders, donors, board members, staff, students, and visitors
Assist with coordination of special events and holiday programming
The right candidate will have the attitude that no task is too small or too great to accomplish

Exceptional multi-tasker with a flexible, positive attitude
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Outstanding written, verbal, and virtual communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent computer skills (using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher) as well as, some experience using database software are required
Self-starter with very little supervision at times
Ability to listen patiently and make sound judgement calls in a variety of situations, including crises and time-sensitive situations
Manage and maintain confidential information related to personal member and Rabbinic matters
Knowledge of Jewish holidays and traditions is preferred, but not required
Experience working for a non-profit is preferred, but not required
Ability to work evenings and weekend in cases of emergencies
