OLLI An American Painter in Paris: John Vanderlyn (1176 – 1852)

February 21 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

$10

Washington University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute comes to the Mirowitz Center! Everybody has heard of Thomas Cole and the Hudson River School, but do you know who John Vanderlyn was? Come discover the life and fascinating career of one of the lesser known American painters, the first to receive formal training at the Fine Arts School in Paris, the fist to establish an American art museum, the first to get international acclaim, and the first to paint a “scandalous” female recumbent nude…Not to mention that he was a protege of another extremely controversial figure, Aaron Burr! Oh my! This class is taught by Anna Amelung.
