MLK Day Event with JCRC and Jewish Book Festival

January 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Green by Sam Graham-Felsen explores a cross-racial friendship of two middle school boys in 1992. David Greenfield, nicknamed “Green” is one of only two white boys at an all-black school. This coming of age novel poignantly reflects racism, privilege and what it means to try to overcome built-in barriers to relationships through the friendship of Greenfield and his black friend Marlon Wellings.

Following a brief presentation about this book, Graham-Felsen will moderate a discussion with leaders from local schools about education, class and modern day civil rights. The panel will include:

• Sean N. Dohery, Ed. D., Superintendent, School District of Clayton
• Alexis Wright, Head of School, New City School
• Student epresentatives from Cultural Leadership

This program is presented in partnership with the Barbara and Michel Newmark Institute for Human Relations at the Jewish Community Relations Council. Co-Sponsored by Cultural Leadership.
