HMLC to Commemorate Tisha B’Av with Special Film Program

August 14, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Holocaust Museum and Learning Center will be screening a special film, Life Is Strange to commemorate Tisha B’Av, the ninth day of the Jewish month of Av. The screening will take place on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the HMLC theatre at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive. This date in the Hebrew calendar marks the destruction of both the first and second temples in Jerusalem, and several other tragic events in Jewish history.

Life Is Strange, a 2012 documentary written and directed by Isaac Hertz, evokes the vibrant life of Jewish families in pre-World War II Europe through childhood memories of survivors. Rare footage takes us into the heart of pre-war Yiddish culture and portrays a universal experience of childhood. The film explores how the memory of the past can be retained when the world that created it no longer exists.

Life is Strange will screen in English with some subtitles and has a running time of 96 minutes.

Rabbi Ze’ev Smason of Nusach Hari-B’nai Zion Congregation will lead a discussion following the screening.  This program is free of charge and open to the public although reservations are required. For information or to RSVP please call 442-3711 or email
