Exploring Cultural & Racial Identity: Looking Inward to Act Outward – A 4-Part Series at Bais Abe

September 1, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until September 15, 2020

Where do I start? Looking inward to act outward

Upset by the racial injustices in our country? Watching the news and constantly thinking “what can I do?” Please join us for a 4 part series focused on exploring our own cultural and racial identity. We will dig into the impact of race in our community and world. This class will focus on looking internally because the more we can understand ourselves the more we are equipped to help others.

This class will be held at 7pm on Tuesday evening for four consecutive weeks: August 25, September 1, 8 and 15.

The class will be limited to 15 participants. We ask that participants do their best to be present for all four sessions.

Hannah Friedman is a St. Louis native attending Epstein Hebrew Academy and Ladue Horton Watkins High School. Hannah grew up going to Bais Abe since before she could walk, was an active vocalist in the Junior Congregation and was Bat mitsvaed there. In 2011, Hannah made the brave journey to begin her public school teaching career in Austin Texas. Today Hannah is a reading specialist at Barbara Jordan Elementary where she has worked for 6 years. In 2014, she co-founded the organization Educators in Solidarity. The organization is comprised of educators across Central Texas who are working to build their collective capacity as anti-racist educators through activism, advocacy, and outreach.
